- What did you do before beginning your real estate career?
- I was a college student majoring in music with an emphasis on classical voice performance at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating I came back to my hometown of Edina and began my real estate career with Edina Realty.
- What initially caused you to look into a real estate career?
- From a young age, I had a fascination with the way homes were built. Originally, I had wanted to become an architect, but the history behind a home and its distinctive features drew me towards existing construction. I’m a history nerd. I collected my grandmother’s Edina phone directories from the ‘60s and ‘70s and even spent time volunteering at the Edina Historical Society. I used to make my mom drive me around town looking at homes, particularly older ones just so I could study their unique traits.
- What do you like most about working in real estate?
- The real estate industry is a competitive arena; every day is a game. Each day I ask myself – how can I be successful today and bring my clients success? I love coaching and strategizing with my clients. It’s so rewarding when it all comes together. This career has the freedom that allows for creativity. This business pushes your capabilities. I like to challenge myself and to set goals, so it’s a great match for me.
- What made you choose Edina Realty?
- One of the biggest reasons I am here at Edina Realty is visibility. There is something to be said about growing up in a community where the overriding impression is that Edina Realty sells more homes and is the market leader. I interviewed multiple real estate companies and it became evident that Edina Realty was the company for me. The resources and technology are also a huge part of it as well. We have it all – technology, great management team, relocation, mortgage and title. Edina Realty sells homes in the area I know and love, so why would I be anywhere else?
- What kind of support do you get from Edina Realty and the office?
- I’m one of the youngest agents working in my office and my fellow agents have been absolutely terrific in helping me strategize about listings. I’ve gained a lot of creative perspective from them and they’ve helped me come up with solutions to challenging situations.
- What advice would you give to someone beginning a real estate career?
- This business will test your patience, that’s for sure. Don’t come into this business just because it seems lucrative. You have to have a passion driving you to get up every morning and get out there. No one else is providing you with a paycheck – but you. Having the support of family and friends is crucial.
- I just keep setting goals for myself. If I’m having a bad month, I look back at where I was a year ago and then I look at how far I’ve come. I look at the areas where I’ve been the most successful and refocus. I then reinvest my time.
