Hudson Historic Homes

Discover Historic Homes in and around Hudson

Hudson was officially founded in 1840 and was known at the time as Willow River and later as Buena Vista (or Beautiful View). Many of the Hudson historic homes were built during a time of rapid growth in the 1850s and 1860s when the area was home to the first lumber industry.

During this time, Judge John Shaw Moffat and his wife, Nancy Bennet Moffat, moved to Hudson and built the now-famous Octagon House in the Hudson Historic District. In the day, an octagon-shaped house was thought to help keep a family healthy because light and air could enter from eight different directions.

Today, visitors to the Hudson Historic District can tour the Octagon House to get a feel for life in the mid 1800s. The St. Croix County Historical Society restored the house with Victorian-era furnishings and built a complex including a garden house and a carriage house with a gift shop and research center.

There are many other beautifully restored, Victorian-era homes on and around the Sixth Street Historic District in Hudson, Wisconsin. Some Hudson historic homes have become bed and breakfast inns, where visitors can enjoy a relaxing getaway while staying within walking distance of Lake St. Croix and waterfront dining, antique shops and art galleries.

If you are interested in buying a Hudson historic home for sale, a REALTOR® can help you find that very special piece of history. Hudson houses for sale include small starter homes that were once carriage houses or guest quarters as well as turn-of-the-century mansions that you can turn into your own, modern-day masterpiece.
