One of Minneapolis' premier neighborhoods, Linden Hills was developed in the late 1800s as a place for city dwellers to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy cottages on Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. It is situated in Southwest Minneapolis near Edina, bordered by Lake Calhoun to the north, Lake Harriet to the east, West 47th Street to the south, and France Avenue to the west.
While many of the original Linden Hills cottages from the late 19th and early 20th century have been replaced, the area's rich past lives on with the Lake Harriet-Como Streetcar. This historic trolley line still runs through the neighborhood between Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun, in the middle of the Linden Hills commercial district.
Eclectic shops and restaurants at West 44th Street at Beard Avenue South and Chowen Avenue South at France Avenue South offer great shopping and dining options. Popular specialty stores and cafes including Wild Rumpus Bookstore, Creative Kidstuff, The Zumbro Café and the Linden Hills Co-op are located near the intersection of Upton Avenue South and 43rd Street. This area, sometimes referred to as downtown Linden Hills, is also home to a large number of alternative health practitioners.
Linden Hills homes for sale include large bungalows and Tudors. Real estate listings in Linden Hills are primarily single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses and lakefront properties. The area is particularly attractive to physicians, professionals, retirees and families.
Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun are just blocks away from downtown Linden Hills. Recreational areas at both lakes offer trails for biking, walking and rollerblading, along with picnic areas and playgrounds. You can round out a summer day by taking in a free concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell on the northern lakeshore.
