Northeast of Rochester, you’ll find the towns of Elgin, Plainview and Millville. These engaged communities offer residents safe and secure places to call home located within reasonable commuting distances from Rochester.
Elgin
In the small town of Elgin, Minnesota, you’ll find a strong sense of community located near the conveniences of a larger city. Rochester, the area’s largest city, is located just 20 minutes southwest of Elgin. The residents of Elgin strive for providing a safe and healthy living environment for its citizens. Students living in Elgin attend the Plainview-Elgin-Millville (PEM) School District. Plainview-Elgin-Millville 4-6 Grade School and Plainview-Elgin-Millville Junior High School are located in Elgin. People living in Elgin will find several activities to keep busy. Elgin is located in the middle of the Great River Ridge paved bike trail, which runs to Plainview to the north and Eyota to the south.
Plainview
Plainview describes itself as a progressive, small town that offers residents a safe and secure place to call home. Just 21 miles northeast of Rochester, it’s close to the conveniences of a larger city. Plainview is the agricultural hub of Wabasha County, with two major food processors – Lakeside Foods, Inc. and Plainview Milk Products – located in the city. Plainview homes for sale include a variety of single-family homes. Plainview offers older homes with character, newer construction home, and everything in between.
Children living in Plainview will attend school in the Plainview-Elgin-Millville School District. The district’s high school and the elementary school for grades pre-K through 3rd grade are located in Plainview.
Plainview has entertainment opportunities for everyone – whether you enjoy nature, sports, history or theater. Plainview is on the western edge of the expansive Richard J. Dorer Hardwood Forest and just north
of Carley State Park. The Mississippi River offers hunting, fishing and boating opportunities and is located 14 miles from Plainview. The town has eight parks and an aquatics center. The Piper Hills Golf Course offers Plainview residents and guests a nine-hole golf course. History enthusiasts will enjoy the Plainview History Center, where they can conduct geneology research, view artifacts and photos spanning a century of small town life and attend the center’s events. The Jon Hassler Theater offers a variety of theatrical productions throughout the year.
Plainview families and residents enjoy the city’s annual festival, Corn on the Cob Days, every August, with festivities that include live music, kiddie carnival, craft show and citywide rummage sale.
Millville
Located along the banks of the Zumbrota River, Millville is a small town with less than 200 residents. Among the businesses in Millville, you will find the Millville Café, the Millville Gun & Rod Shop and the Stumble In bar. Millville homes for sale include affordable single-family homes. Students living in Millville attend the Plainview-Elgin-Millville School District, which encourages students to be involved in extracurricular programs and has a strong academic program.
