Not only is the Brainerd Lakes Area very popular in the summer, but in the winter as well. Ice Fishing is a sought after sport that people need to experience. Lake Life in the Brainerd Lakes Area

In Crow Wing County alone there are over 400 lakes, and 75 rivers. This would give you over 2,000 miles of shoreline.

People like to enjoy the lakes in a variety of ways. Therefore, knowing the different types of lake classifications is very important.

General developments are typically large lakes that are either super deep or have a variety of depths. They often times have more developments and a higher population. A couple examples in the Brainerd Lakes Area would be Gull Lake, Whitefish Chain or Ossawinnamakee lake.

Recreational developments are mid sized lakes, with various depths throughout the lake. These types of lakes are typically full time and seasonal residents. A couple examples of these lakes in the Brainerd Lakes Area are Whipple, and Smokey Hollow lake.

Natural Environment lakes are often small and shallow with little to no delvopment on them and oftentimes found in rural areas. A few examples are Rush or Rock lake.

On this trail you are able to: hike, run, in-line skate, mountain bike, cross country ski, and snowmobile.

The Paul M Thiede Fire Tower Park is another fun spot to check out in Pequot Lakes! This fire tower was built in 1934, it is 100 feet tall and a total of 135 steps.

The Cuyuna Crosby Mine pits are a hotspot for all those who love the outdoors. There is about 5,000 miles of undeveloped land with bike trails leading around the man made lake. These trails are great for hiking and biking on. Later, get into the clear blue water that is about 530 ft deep. Its a perfect location for swimming, fishing and canoeing.
