Edina Realty Led Region for 24th Consecutive Year

More than 18,000 closed transactions and $7.47 billion in sales volume

Edina, Minnesota – Feb. 5, 2024, Edina Realty, the largest residential real estate firm in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, remained the market leader in home sales in 2023, its 24th consecutive year holding that title. At year’s end, agents at the company had completed more than 18,000 transactions equating to $7.47 billion in sales volume.

Elevated mortgage interest rates (as high as 8%), rising prices and a shortage of housing supply caused a significant decline in real estate activity in 2023. According to data from the Minneapolis Area REALTORS®, sales were at their lowest level since 2011, creating an especially challenging environment for REALTORS competing to earn business. Still, Edina Realty REALTORS outperformed the competition while remaining committed to the company’s values of honesty, integrity, commitment, innovation and community.

“Our agents really stepped up in a difficult market,” said Sharry Schmid, Edina Realty president. “They continue to earn the trust of their clients by providing expert advice, neighborhood and market information, and most importantly, by advocating for them throughout the process of buying, selling and homeownership.”

Edina Realty predicts 2024 to be a much more traditional year for buyers and sellers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

  • Interest rates will be lower, but affordability will continue to be a challenge, especially for first-time homebuyers.
  • More sellers will enter the market, increasing the supply of homes for sale.
  • The local economy will be stable with low rates of unemployment.

“We’re expecting a market that will be more typical in terms of seasonality and much more stable without the high highs and steep declines of past years,” said Schmid. “I am personally excited for a much more predictable and boring market!” she added.
