Choosing the right REALTOR® for you

How to choose Realtor

When looking for a REALTOR® to help you buy a home, you'll want someone you can trust and feel comfortable with when communicating your likes, dislikes and financial considerations. Keep in mind that not all real estate agents are Realtors, but all Edina Realty agents are Realtors. One benefit of buying and selling with a Realtor is that they agree to abide by a strict code of ethics, which is important considering that your real estate agent guides you through a significant financial transaction, handling your private information and representing your best interests. Here are some tips to finding the right Realtor.

The internet is a great resource to begin looking for a Realtor. Real estate agents should provide information about their experience and expertise on their website or social networking sites. Some may have listings of previous properties they have sold or even listings they currently represent.

One way you can identify a good Realtor in your area is by looking at "for sale" signs in front of nearby homes. If you notice one real estate agent's name on numerous signs, they are likely very qualified and knowledgeable about your area, so consider hiring them.

Ask friends or family for recommendations. Knowing someone who had a good experience with a real estate agent might help you feel more comfortable. But make sure the real estate agent has experience in the local area where you want to buy or sell a home.

Once you have a list, interview your prospective Realtors in person. That's the best way to make sure they'll be a good match. Get ideas on questions to ask prospective Realtors.
