Hudson may add secondary school to better serve its students

Hudson Wisconsin new secondary school

Hudson, Wisconsin's fast-growing population means that Hudson Middle School (which currently serves grades 6 - 8) is the largest in the state in terms of attendance. As a result, the Hudson School Board has approved research on five new scenarios that would seek to balance out the middle school population. Below are the different options.

1) Construct a new high school for grades 9 - 12

The current high school would be converted for grades 7 - 8, and the current middle school would serve grades 6 - 7.

2) Construct a new high school for grades 10 - 12

The current high school would be converted to serve grades 8 - 9, and the current middle school would serve grades 6 - 7.

3) Construct a STEM school

In this option, up to 700 students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math would attend a brand-new school aimed at teaching the STEM curriculum.

4) Construct new high school for grades 10 - 12

Under this plan, Hudson Middle School and the current high school would be converted to two middle schools for grades 6 - 9.

5) Construct a new middle school for grades 6 - 9

Under this plan, the current high school would be converted to serve grades 10 - 12. The new school and the existing Hudson Middle School would both serve grades 6 - 9 as secondary schools.

All five options will now be fully researched and presented for upcoming community review.

Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten has stated, "What I want to emphasize is that when we talk about some additional options for consideration, the administration has no preference on these options. We're looking at identifying an option that our community supports as a long-term solution that certainly supports our program and the vision of the district and moving that forward, and also provides adequate space for learning for our students."

The board is right to consider new options, as Hudson is one of the fastest growing communities in Wisconsin. The local housing market saw home sales increase 18 percent in January on a year-over-year comparison, according to the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association.

As interest rates remain near their record lows and employment numbers expected to continue to show improvements, conditions are ideal for buying a home in Hudson, Wisconsin. Contact a Hudson real estate expert today to begin your search.
